"This splendid poster is the 5th to promote the 1984 French Open Tennis Tournament, now known as Roland Garros, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments.

Since 1980, the F.F.T (French Tennis Federation), in partnership with Galerie Lelong, has commissioned an artist each year to design a poster to promote the tournament.
The F.F.T has recruited some remarkable artists to create these posters, including Gilles Aillaud, who has done a remarkable job in making this poster mythical.

Gilles Aillaud 🇫🇷 (1928-2005), was a French painter, author and set designer, son of architect Émile Aillaud, one of the inventors of social housing in post-war France.

That year, the tournament was won by Czechoslovak Ivan Lendl in the men's draw and by Czechoslovak-born American Martina Navrátilová in the women's draw."
