Travel poster of Greece published by the Greek National Tourist Office in 1967. The photo by Dimitris Harissiadis shows a picture of a small Greek town near the bay on the island of Kythera (Kythira).
The island is strategically located between mainland Greece and Crete and, from ancient times until the middle of the 19th century, it has been a crossroads for merchants, sailors and conquerors. It has therefore had a long and varied history and has been influenced by many civilizations and cultures. This is reflected in its architecture (a mixture of traditional, Aegean and Venetian elements), as well as in its traditions and customs, influenced by centuries of coexistence of Greek and Venetian cultures.
Harissiadis was one of the founding members of the Greek Society of Photography in 1952 and, between 1956 and 1985, he directed, in partnership with Dionysis Tamaressis, the famous photographic agency "D. A. Harissiadis". As a commercial photographer, he specialized in industrial photography and advertising.
