The second colonial exhibition of Marseille was inaugurated 100 years ago, on April 16, 1922.

The second colonial exhibition of Marseille took place from April to November 1922. It was a major event desired by the economic circles of Marseille in the wake of the first colonial exhibition of 1906, which had been a success. Financed by the City of Marseille, the Chamber of Commerce and the Bouches-du-Rhône Department, this event was intended to promote trade between France and its colonies and dependent territories, and to make them better known to the general public. This commercial operation, with its numerous events of all kinds, is experienced by the general public as an invitation to travel and to the exotic, even if it also fixes in the population clichés on the colonized peoples and on the French imperial grandeur.
