OSPAAAL (Organization of Solidarity of the Peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America) created by Fidel Castro, produces a sublime poster for the day of solidarity with Guatemala.
This organization was born during the tricontinental conference held in Havana in 1966 to fight American imperialism.
The Guatemalan armed conflict was a guerrilla war that opposed the military junta in power between 1960 and 1996 to various leftist rebel groups, supported by the Mayan indigenous peoples and the Ladino peasants who make up the entire poor population of the rural areas.
The conflict was triggered by the rebellion of a group of military officers against a coup d'état organized by the CIA and had social, economic, political and ethnic causes. More than 100,000 people died, tens of thousands disappeared and more than a million were displaced.
