Exceptional French Loterie Nationale poster to raise funds for the Association des artistes dramatiques, depicting an allegorical figure (possibly Drama) holding the winged wheel of progress and wearing a mask of tragedy and comedy around the waist.
Jean de Paleologu or de Paleologue, born in 1855 and died in 1942, was a Romanian painter, illustrator and poster artist who often used Pal or PAL as his signature or studio mark.
Born in Bucharest, he studied art in Paris and London, then returned to Romania, where he attended a military academy. He then spent several periods in London, before moving to Paris to practice in France. He moved to the United States in 1900.

He illustrated Petits poèmes russes by Catulle Mendès, a collection published by Editions Charpentier in 1893. In Paris and the United States, he produced a large number of posters, notably advertising for cycling3 , and also contributed to the JOB collection. He contributed to a number of periodicals, including Le Rire, La Plume, Cocorico and Le Frou-frou.
