Presenting this vibrant original lithographic poster created in 1896 by Jules Chéret for Les Maîtres de l’Affiche, Plate 45, advertising the novel L’amant des danseuses by Félicien Champsaur. This poster exemplifies Chéret’s signature style, capturing the spirit and movement of Parisian entertainment culture during the Belle Époque.

Jules Chéret (1836-1932), often called “the father of the modern poster,” revolutionised poster design with his fluid lines, bright colours, and playful depictions of elegant Parisian women. His works were instrumental in elevating poster art to a respected artistic medium, and his influence defined fin-de-siècle visual culture.

In this poster, a radiant dancer in a yellow dress whirls joyfully with a tambourine, surrounded by subtle silhouettes of other dancers, while an intrigued gentleman watches her performance. The composition is imbued with energy and life, evoking the theatrical and literary themes of Champsaur’s novel, a reflection of Parisian cabaret fascination.

This artwork was printed as part of the Les Maîtres de l’Affiche series, which showcased the best poster artists of the era in smaller, collectable lithographic plates. It bears the blindstamp at lower right and remains in very good condition on its original backing sheet.

A superb collector’s piece and an emblem of Jules Chéret’s joyous mastery of colour, movement, and Parisian charm.
