This original lithographic poster, created in 1896 by Danish artist Paul Fischer, was published as Plate 84 in the renowned Les Maîtres de l’Affiche series. The artwork advertises Vilh. Søborg’s advertising poster services in Copenhagen, with the playful text Reklame Plakater Kunstnerisk Assistance (Advertising Posters Artistic Assistance).

Paul Fischer (1860–1934) was a celebrated Danish painter and poster artist known for his vibrant scenes of urban life in Copenhagen. His works often depict elegant café culture, theatres, and social life with refined observation, bold colours, and subtle humour.

This composition places the viewer in a bustling café interior, where a stylish man with yellow-striped trousers reads an advertising poster, subtly promoting Vilh. Søborg’s printing business. Around him, diners and waiters animate the space, rendered in Fischer’s graphic, flattened style with strong outlines and harmonious colours, emblematic of Scandinavian poster design of the era.

Printed as part of Les Maîtres de l’Affiche, the prestigious series showcasing the greatest poster artists of the Belle Époque, this plate retains its blindstamp in the lower right and excellent colour vibrancy.

A rare and elegant work by Paul Fischer, perfect for collectors of Danish art, graphic design history, or Belle Époque poster art.
