Below, a smaller photograph shows a Japan Air Lines flight attendant making the same discreet hand gesture, creating a visual connection between the child’s natural expression and the welcoming service offered aboard the airline.

The photographic composition is simple yet highly effective. The softly focused background draws attention to the girl’s joyful expression, while the restrained lower panel combines elegant black typography with the celebrated red crane logo of Japan Air Lines.

Introduced during the late 1970s and used into the early 1980s, this campaign associated air travel with distinctive aspects of Japanese culture. Rather than concentrating on aircraft or destinations, the poster promotes a more personal vision of travel based on character, courtesy and human connection.

Printed in colour offset, this original poster is an appealing example of twentieth-century airline advertising.
