ap_01515
Bretagne SNCF 1962

Original photographic travel poster created in 1962 for the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français, promoting Brittany as a summer holiday destination. The atmospheric colour photograph is credited to French photographer Noël Josse.

The composition depicts holidaymakers relaxing on the rugged Breton rocks as waves break along the shoreline. Beyond the water and sandy beach, a long passenger train crosses the horizon, subtly connecting the pleasures of the coast with travel by rail.

Bright blue sky, deep green water and the vivid red clothing of the central figure give the image a particularly fresh and summery character. The dramatic diagonal formed by the rocks draws the viewer from the foreground towards the train in the distance.

The understated typography and photographic approach reflect the increasingly modern visual language adopted by the SNCF during the 1960s. Rather than relying on traditional illustration, the poster presents Brittany as an accessible destination associated with sunshine, leisure and outdoor life.

This original poster is an attractive example of mid-century French railway advertising and photographic travel design. It will appeal to collectors of SNCF posters, French photography, Brittany memorabilia and vintage seaside imagery.

Original Poster

Railway - Sea - Tourism - France

French National Railway Company

Printed by Helio-Cachan

Good condition
