Very nice poster made by Jean Cocteau in 1955 for the Festival of Music in Menton.

August 12, 1949, Andre Böröcz, Hungarian artist who joined Paris after the war, is on a summer visit to Menton. During a few strolls, his steps lead him in the Old City where he discovered, nestled in the heart of the historic center, the square of the Basilica of St. Michael and its unobstructed view of the Mediterranean.

In this magical setting, he hears the melody of Bach's second violin partita, whose notes played by Jasha Heifetz escape from a radio set placed on a windowsill.

Time seems to stand still on this perfect summer evening. André Böröcz had a dream: to relive this magical moment and share it. He realized it by creating the Music Festival of Menton, where the greatest virtuosos of the international scene have followed one another for more than six decades.

In 1955, Jean Cocteau himself will attend and, captivated by the timeless dreaminess of the show, will agree to make the poster of the next edition.
