Original lithograph by Poulbot of a scene from the first world war. This lithograph is numbered 36/50 and hand signed by the artist. Francisque Poulbot, born in Saint-Denis on February 6, 1879 and died in Paris on September 16, 1946, was a French poster artist, goguettier, draftsman and illustrator. From 1900, his drawings began to be published in the press. He settled in Montmartre and married, in February 1914, Léona Ondernard, before leaving for the front; however, he was discharged the following year. During the Great War, he signed posters and patriotic postcards, which earned him house arrest during the Second World War, under the German occupation. The neologism "poulbot" was created in reference to his numerous illustrations representing Parisian titis: street kids. An illustration of Gavroche, the famous character from Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables, is a perfect example. He is also the originator of the couple of fetish dolls of the First World War Nénette and Rintin.
