Poster made by Jean Cocteau 🇫🇷 (1889-1963) a French poet, painter, designer, playwright and filmmaker. In the workshop of Madeleine Jolly and Philippe Madeline in Villefranche-sur-Mer, he created more than 300 ceramics and jewelry. During the same period he designed poem-objects.
The printer of this poster is Mourlot.
Fernand Mourlot is considered in the art world as a master lithographer. For more than half a century, he has linked his name to those of the greatest painters of the 20th century, including Matisse, Braque, Chagall, Miró and Picasso, among others.
For the Mourlot family, printing was a family affair since the father, Jules, already ran a printing house on rue Saint-Maur before acquiring the one on rue de Chabrol, which produced theater and cabaret posters. When he died in 1921, his sons took over the business, but it was in 1930 that the name Mourlot was adopted.
