Original poster made by Monique Cras (1910-2007), a famous French painter and poster artist.
She was a student of Paul-Albert Laurens and Lucien Simon at the Beaux-Arts de Paris. Between 1937 and 1938, she traveled to the Maghreb with a scholarship and spent several months in the Hoggar (mountainous massif in southern Algeria).
In 1938, thanks to another grant, she discovered French West Africa and, in 1939, exhibited thirty works inspired by this trip at the Salon de la Société Coloniale des Artistes Français.
In addition, she produced commissions for the French State, the City of Paris, New Caledonia, and Overseas.
This magnificent map introduces us to New Caledonia as well as to all the great explorers who participated in the discovery and cartographic writing of this idyllic archipelago.
