Beautiful lithograph by Picasso in 1962 in homage to Matisse for the Côte d'Azur and Cannes.

After Matisse's death in 1954, Picasso was deeply saddened. He moved his family to a large villa near Cannes, in the south of France, and painted a series entitled "Studio" in tribute to Matisse. He painted nearly a dozen canvases depicting the same view from his third-floor studio window - with a lush background of sky, garden and sea - while in the foreground, "white doves" nest and play in a dovecote Picasso had built on his terrace. Picasso wasn't in the habit of painting what he saw; he drew his artistic inspiration from his imagination. It was his old friend Matisse who drew his inspiration from nature. Herein lies Picasso's tribute to Matisse.
