Milton Glaser's original poster, created in 1967, marked a significant moment in the history of New York magazine. Commissioned to announce the inaugural issue of the magazine's new format, the poster featured four distinct views of the iconic Empire State Building.

New York magazine had its origins as a Sunday supplement to the New York Herald Tribune in 1963. However, it underwent a transformation when the Tribune folded in 1966. Glaser, along with former editor Clay Felker, seized the opportunity to purchase the rights to the publication and relaunched it as a weekly magazine. The first issue of the revamped New York magazine hit newsstands on April 8, 1968.

As a co-founder of Push Pin Studios and New York magazine, Milton Glaser played a pivotal role in shaping American visual culture. His diverse body of work, ranging from the psychedelic silhouette of Bob Dylan to the iconic I Love New York logo, has left an indelible mark on the world of design and illustration.

This original poster from the Milton Glaser Archive not only captures the essence of New York City through its depiction of the Empire State Building but also serves as a testament to Glaser's enduring influence and creativity in the field of graphic design.
