Superb poster with radiant colors realized by Leonard Richmond 🇬🇧 (1889-1965) around 1925. This artist was particularly known for his railway posters.
During the First World War, Richmond served as the official war artist for Canada. In the 1920s and 1930s he produced posters promoting the Canadian Pacific Railway as well as the Southern and Great Western Railways in Great Britain.
This Southern Railway poster promotes the town of Dover, which is a coastal and port town in the county of Kent in southeast England.
It is located on the English Channel, 35 km from the French coast and Cape Gris-Nez. It is therefore the closest city in the United Kingdom to France.
This situation makes it the main transit port between the two shores of the Channel, especially towards the ports of Calais and Ostend.
