Original poster made Jean Carlu 🇫🇷 (1900-1997) a French advertising designer and poster artist for the Ministry of War, to invite "young sportsmen to join the French army."
He began his career as a professional poster artist in 1919, after a competition organized by a dental appliance manufacturer (Glycodont).
From 1919 to 1921, he was an illustrator, then worked in an advertising agency. It was at this time that he designed his first poster in the art deco style (for Charlie Chaplin's The Kid).
He was attracted by cubism and the works of Juan Gris and Albert Gleizes. He was one of the first to understand that in order to fix a brand in the minds of consumers, it is necessary to go through a process in which schematic forms and expressive colors are applied.
