This original travel poster was produced circa 1960 by the Office National Marocain du Tourisme in Rabat. Intended for the German-speaking market, its bold title “Marokko” promotes Morocco through a striking photograph credited to Gillet.
The composition presents a smiling young Moroccan man wearing traditional Amazigh dress. His richly decorated headdress, adorned with coins, beads and red embroidery, contrasts beautifully with the thick white woollen cloak wrapped around his shoulders.
Photographed against trees and a snow-covered landscape, the image highlights the unexpected winter scenery of the Atlas Mountains. The natural expression of the sitter gives the poster warmth and immediacy, while the restrained typography allows the portrait to remain the central focus.
Produced during a period of expanding international tourism, the poster offered European travellers a vision of Morocco based on its cultural traditions and varied landscapes. Its German-language title demonstrates the international reach of the campaigns organised by the Moroccan National Tourist Office.
Printed in colour offset by Edita in Casablanca, this original poster is a fine example of mid-century photographic travel advertising. Its expressive portrait, traditional clothing and distinctive Moroccan subject will appeal to collectors of North African design, travel posters and vintage photography.
