This original circa 1930 French political poster was designed by André Galland under the title Électeurs, pensez à nous!, translated as “Electors, Think of Us!”. Produced during the politically divided interwar period, it appealed directly to voters on behalf of war widows, pensioners, small investors, employees and workers.

Galland depicts a solemn group gathered beside a ballot box, including a decorated veteran, an elderly man, a distressed woman and two children. Their anxious expressions and worn clothing are intended to represent the sections of French society portrayed as particularly vulnerable to political and economic instability.

A large white question mark dominates the vivid red background above the ballot box. The restricted palette of red, black and cream, combined with Galland’s expressive draughtsmanship, creates an immediate and emotionally charged composition designed to command attention in the street.

The accompanying text warns that victories by the Cartel des Gauches, the Socialists or the Communists would bring renewed financial crisis, inflation, unemployment and social unrest. André Galland was a French illustrator, caricaturist and poster designer whose work appeared widely in the press and political campaigns of the early twentieth century.

A powerful document of interwar French political propaganda, this original poster would make a fascinating addition to a collection devoted to political history, social illustration, election campaigns or French graphic design.
