This exceptional original poster was created by F. Garric in 1898 to advertise Mistinguett at the Ambassadeurs café-concert in Paris. Presented as Mistinguett l’Excentrique, it dates from the very beginning of her career, several years before she became one of the greatest stars of the French music hall.

The central design captures the energy and eccentricity of her stage performance through a dynamic figure with raised legs, flowing skirts and dramatically simplified limbs. A portrait of the young performer, credited to Jolly, appears within a circular frame at the lower left, providing a remarkable contrast between photographic realism and stylised illustration.

Garric uses an inventive palette of olive green, yellow, black and coral red, with the dancer almost dissolving into a series of abstract, undulating forms. Monumental lettering announces the Ambassadeurs and Mistinguett’s name, creating a bold and theatrical composition characteristic of fin-de-siècle Paris.

Born Jeanne Florentine Bourgeois, Mistinguett went on to become an international icon through her appearances at venues including the Moulin Rouge, Folies Bergère and Casino de Paris. This poster records her emerging stage identity at a particularly early and historically important moment.

Combining entertainment history, innovative graphic design and an early portrait of a legendary performer, this original poster is a significant document of Belle Époque popular culture. It will appeal to collectors of French music-hall material, theatrical posters and early celebrity imagery.
