This exceptional panoramic poster presents a remarkably detailed cutaway view of the legendary French ocean liner Normandie. Created by Albert Sébille for the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique around 1935, it reveals the interior organisation of the vessel at the beginning of her celebrated transatlantic career.
Shown in full profile, the ship’s hull is opened to expose its numerous decks, passenger cabins, grand public rooms, service areas and vast engineering spaces. Printed descriptions and technical information surround the illustration, transforming the poster into both an elegant promotional image and a fascinating document of naval architecture.
Sébille balances technical precision with considerable artistic refinement. The liner’s three red-and-black funnels rise above a complex arrangement of softly coloured interiors, while the elongated horizontal format emphasises the extraordinary scale and streamlined silhouette of the ship.
Albert Sébille was a distinguished French marine painter and an official Painter of the French Navy. His detailed maritime illustrations were ideally suited to the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, whose liners embodied French engineering, craftsmanship and luxury during the golden age of ocean travel.
The Normandie remains one of the most celebrated passenger ships of the twentieth century and an enduring symbol of French Art Deco modernity. Combining maritime history, graphic design and technical illustration, this original cutaway poster is an important and highly decorative collector’s piece.
