This original 1991 poster was designed by Franco Costa for the Champagne Mumm Admiral’s Cup, an important international sailing competition. Combining sporting imagery with elegant commercial design, it celebrates both competitive yachting and Mumm’s association with the prestigious event.

The composition depicts three racing yachts cutting through the water beneath towering sails. Small groups of crew members, rendered in contrasting blue and red, animate the boats, while a bright Mumm-branded buoy marks the course in the foreground.

Costa employs strong geometric forms and a sophisticated palette of cream, gold, deep green and blue. The sharply angled sails convey speed and movement, while the clean white border and restrained typography give the poster a refined, modern appearance.

Franco Costa was an Italian painter and graphic artist particularly renowned for his colourful depictions of sailing, coastal landscapes and international sporting events. His distinctive work combines simplified forms, bold areas of colour and an enduring fascination with the sea.

A stylish and highly decorative example of late twentieth-century sailing advertising, this original poster would make an excellent addition to a collection devoted to yachting, Champagne Mumm, maritime art, Franco Costa or sporting history.
