"À mon père, le Baron Philippe de Rothschild, rénovateur de Mouton, je dédie ce millésime de sa 65ème et dernière vendange."

The inscription commemorates the 65th and final harvest overseen by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who passed away in 1988 after more than six decades guiding the destiny of Mouton Rothschild and elevating the château to its legendary status within the world of wine.

Another phrase appears beneath the dedication:

"Mouton ne change."

This echoes the estate's famous motto, coined after Mouton Rothschild finally obtained First Growth status in the Bordeaux Classification revision of 1973:

"Premier je suis, second je fus, Mouton ne change."
(First I am, second I was, Mouton does not change.)
