This original circa 1955 French travel poster, entitled Montagnes de France, was designed by Jacques Nathan-Garamond for the Commissariat Général au Tourisme and published by the French Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Tourism.

The composition presents a monumental fir tree framed by snow-covered peaks and dense forests. Two vivid red trains cross sweeping viaducts in the distance, celebrating the railway as a picturesque gateway to France’s mountain regions.

Nathan-Garamond reduces the landscape to strong geometric forms and carefully balanced areas of green, blue and white. The restrained palette is enlivened by the red trains, while the rustic wooden title panel adds warmth to this poster printed in lithograph.

Jacques Nathan-Garamond was an influential French graphic designer and a founding member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale. His work is admired for its clarity, visual economy and sophisticated synthesis of modernism and commercial communication.

An evocative example of mid-century French tourism design, this original poster would make a striking addition to a collection devoted to vintage travel, railway history, mountain imagery or twentieth-century graphic art.
