This original 1981 exhibition poster was created for Helmut Newton Photographies 1980–81, presented at Galerie Daniel Templon in Paris from 29 October to 26 November. Entitled Grands Nus, the landmark exhibition introduced Newton’s monumental Big Nudes series as life-size gallery photographs.

The poster reproduces Big Nude III (Henrietta), Paris, 1980, one of Newton’s most celebrated photographs. Model Henriette Allais stands confidently before the camera wearing only high-heeled shoes, her frontal pose, direct expression and elongated shadow creating an image of striking authority.

Newton’s dramatic black-and-white photography is complemented by an exceptionally restrained layout. The exhibition title appears above the image, while the gallery, address and dates are presented along the lower margin. This poster printed in lithograph preserves the sharp contrasts and sculptural presence of the original photograph.

Helmut Newton was a German-Australian photographer whose provocative fashion images, portraits and studies of the female figure transformed twentieth-century photography. Inspired partly by the monumental identity photographs used on German police wanted posters, his Big Nudes combined clinical precision with theatrical staging, glamour and psychological tension.

An important document from the first exhibition of Newton’s celebrated series, this original poster would make an exceptional addition to a collection devoted to photography, fashion, the human figure or influential twentieth-century exhibitions.
