This original 1973 French advertising poster was produced by O.G.E.P. to promote camping and outdoor holidays. Its cheerful slogan, Camping Plein-Air – Moins Cher, Plus Gai, translates as “Open-Air Camping – Cheaper and More Fun”.
The colourful illustration features Walt Disney’s Mickey and Minnie Mouse preparing food together over a portable barbecue. Minnie appears with a pink bow and white dress, holding a knife and fork, while Mickey wears a patterned shirt, blue jeans and trainers as he proudly presents their outdoor meal.
Set against a bright turquoise background, the characters are complemented by enormous orange lettering with dramatic black shadows. The lively typography, humorous scene and strong contrasting colours give the poster the immediate visual appeal of a comic-book cover.
Produced with the authorisation of Walt Disney Productions, the poster also bears the special 1923–1973 emblem celebrating the company’s 50th anniversary. By using two of Disney’s most recognisable characters, the campaign presented camping as an affordable, sociable and family-friendly form of recreation.
A charming example of 1970s French leisure advertising, this original poster combines the appeal of vintage Disney artwork with the period’s enthusiasm for outdoor holidays. It would make an excellent addition to a collection devoted to Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Walt Disney, camping or popular culture.
