This original circa 1960 Swiss travel poster promotes Adelboden in the Bernese Oberland. Created for an international audience, it presents the Alpine resort as an inviting summer destination and displays the name of Switzerland in several languages.

At its centre, a photograph by Walter Studer shows an outdoor swimming pool surrounded by forests, green mountain slopes and snow-covered peaks. Three colourful parasols extend beyond the photograph, playfully connecting the landscape with the surrounding graphic composition.

The strong red, yellow and blue umbrellas contrast beautifully with the poster’s cream background. Clean sans-serif typography and an asymmetrical arrangement give the design the clarity and precision associated with mid-century Swiss graphic design.

The printed credits identify Walter Studer as the photographer and Werner Mühlemann as the designer of the layout. Their combination of landscape photography, bold colour and disciplined typography creates a modern and memorable image of the Bernese Alps.

A striking example of Swiss tourism advertising, this original poster would make an excellent addition to a collection devoted to Adelboden, Alpine resorts, Walter Studer or mid-century photographic design.
