This original circa 1950 French advertising poster was designed by Albert Brenet for Ets Martell in Cognac. Entitled “Le Hall de Mise en Bouteilles,” it offers a remarkable view inside the company’s busy bottling and packaging facilities.
The composition depicts long production lines surrounded by numerous employees preparing, inspecting and packing bottles of Martell Cognac. Machinery, conveyor belts, stacked boxes and orderly rows of bottles convey the impressive scale of the operation.
Brenet combines documentary precision with expressive brushwork, using shades of blue, grey, white, yellow and red to animate the industrial interior. The receding columns and repeated workstations create a powerful sense of perspective, movement and coordinated activity.
Albert Brenet was a celebrated French painter, illustrator and poster designer. Particularly admired for his dynamic depictions of ships, transport, industry and modern life, he recorded the technical environments and working practices of his era with exceptional energy and detail.
A striking and highly decorative example of mid-century French commercial art, this original poster would make an excellent addition to a collection devoted to Albert Brenet, Martell Cognac, wine and spirits or industrial heritage.
