This original 1906 French poster printed in colour lithography by Oberthür in Rennes and Paris advertises La Salamandre, the celebrated mobile stove manufactured by E. Chaboche. Presented as a cheminée roulante à feu visible et continu—a movable fireplace with a visible, continuous fire—the appliance reflects the growing importance of comfort, efficiency and modern domestic equipment during the early twentieth century.

The composition is dominated by an elaborate cast-iron stove, depicted with remarkable precision against a brilliant yellow background. Its sculpted ornament, blue enamel decoration and glowing red flames transform an everyday heating appliance into an object of luxury. Above it, the name La Salamandre appears in monumental red lettering with a strong black shadow, giving the poster immediate visibility and considerable decorative impact.

The surrounding inscriptions emphasize the stove’s practical advantages. The new model is advertised as requiring only one loading every twenty-four hours, with prices beginning at 100 francs. The poster also proudly mentions the gold medal awarded in Paris in 1900 and instructs customers to verify that the name E. Chaboche appears on the appliance—an early example of a manufacturer protecting its brand against imitations.

La Salamandre was developed by French engineer Edmond Chaboche during the 1880s. Its combination of mobility, continuous combustion and visible flames offered an appealing alternative to the traditional fixed fireplace. The success of the brand was such that the word salamandre gradually became a familiar French term for this type of compact cast-iron stove. The poster’s designer is not identified, while the name of the printer, Oberthür, appears along the lower margin.

With its bold typography, vivid colours and finely rendered industrial subject, this original poster is an attractive document of Belle Époque advertising and the history of domestic design. It will appeal particularly to collectors of French commercial posters, antique stoves, industrial design and historic household advertising, while its warm palette makes it especially suitable for a kitchen, dining room or country-house interior.
