Issued circa 1900 as number 6 in Le Musée de Sires, this original poster printed in color lithography caricatures Émile Loubet, President of the French Republic from 1899 to 1906.

Loubet appears in formal evening dress, complete with top hat, sash and carefully groomed moustache. An elegantly dressed woman stands at his side holding a fan, turning the political portrait into a fashionable Parisian social scene. Black and warm red dominate the restrained composition.

The sheet was created early in Loubet’s presidency, when the ceremonial role of the French head of state remained a frequent subject for the humorous press. Roubille gently contrasts republican authority with the cultivated appearance of Belle Époque high society.

Auguste Roubille began contributing to French satirical publications during the late 1890s. Alongside his editorial work, he designed posters, illustrated books and exhibited paintings, developing a style notable for its economy and graphic precision.

An engaging record of the French Third Republic, this original poster will interest collectors of presidential history, Parisian imagery and turn-of-the-century graphic art.
