This original colour screenprint was created in 1970 by Mario Prassinos for the Office de Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française, commonly known as the ORTF. Produced in a limited edition of only 50 impressions, this example is numbered 2/50 and signed by the artist in pencil.

The ORTF was France’s national public broadcasting organisation, overseeing state radio and television during an important period in the development of modern mass communication. Prassinos’s composition incorporates the distinctive ORTF emblem at its centre, transforming an institutional commission into an independent work of graphic art.

A monumental white form covered with irregular black marks dominates the composition, while sharp bands of ochre, orange, red and black radiate across the surrounding space. The central red element and outward-moving lines suggest the transmission of sound, images or electromagnetic signals.

Born in Istanbul in 1916 and established in France from childhood, Mario Prassinos became an important figure of the School of Paris. His work developed from early associations with the Surrealist movement towards a highly personal non-figurative language explored through painting, printmaking, tapestry, book illustration and theatrical design.

Combining modern abstraction with the history of French broadcasting, this signed and numbered screenprint is both an accomplished artwork and a rare cultural document. Its extremely limited edition and exceptionally low number make it particularly appealing to collectors of twentieth-century prints, French modern art and radio or television memorabilia.
