Original vintage 1966 third-printing concert poster printed in lithograph and designed by Peter Bailey. Commissioned by Bill Graham and catalogued as BG-1, it represents the very first poster in Graham’s celebrated numbered concert series.

The poster advertised three Jefferson Airplane dance concerts held at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco on 4, 5 and 6 February 1966. The performances incorporated the “Sights and Sounds of the Trips Festival,” reflecting the experimental multimedia culture emerging in the city.

Bailey’s dynamic composition combines a horse and rider with early biplanes, surrounded by elongated diagonal lettering spelling out the group’s name. The unusual yellow and deep red palette gives the design a bold, almost cinematic appearance.

This authorised third printing was produced shortly after the concerts on white index stock by Creative Lithograph Co. It can be identified by the printer’s notation “Creative Lithograph Co. No. 1” appearing in the lower-left corner.

As BG-1, this poster marks the beginning of one of the most important concert-poster series in American graphic history. Its pioneering status, striking aviation imagery and connection with Jefferson Airplane and the Fillmore make it a highly collectable document of San Francisco’s early psychedelic era.
