Table tennis is thought to have originated in England at the end of the 19th century.

The most common story about the creation of table tennis is that, during a dinner party, some Victorian notables were discussing tennis and wanted to show some patterns of play on the table. They used a champagne cork for a ball, cigar boxes for rackets and books for a net.
