Jean Carlu 🇫🇷 (1900 - 1997) is an advertising designer and poster artist who marked his time.
He was one of the first to understand that to fix the image of a brand in the mind of the consumer, he had to proceed by the use of schematized forms and very expressive colors.

For the record, this poster, which advocates peace in a particularly tense context (between two wars) caused, from the beginning of its exhibition at the Palais des Tuileries, such a shock that the officials wanted to remove it without succeeding.

Attiré par le cubisme et par le travail de Juan Gray ainsi que par celui d'Albert Gleizes, il fut l'un des premiers à comprendre que pour fixer l'image d'une marque dans l'esprit du consommateur, il fallait procéder par l'utilisation de formes schématisées et de couleurs très expressives.

Dessin et collage : Innovation de l'époque : Intégration dans un dessin de deux photographies de visage. (Méthode devenue courante ensuite, et encore plus aujourd'hui avec l'ordinateur).

It follows the example of other artists like Rodchenko (very inventive Russian artist in photographer and in the composition of posters, printed pages), or from the Dadaistes.

Mais ici, il n'est pas allé vers des images trouvées dans la presse : le projet (l'idée) vient d'abord, il photographie ensuite une femme avec son enfant pour obtenir l'expression souhaitée.Il lui a demandé de ressentir réellement ce qu'elle ressentirait si un attentat avait lieu.
