Dreamlike and poetic, this original 1962 lithographic poster was created by Marc Chagall for his exhibition at the renowned Galerie Maeght in Paris, held during Juin–Juillet 1962. Titled L’Oiseau Vert, the work features one of Chagall’s most enduring symbols—a fantastical bird, perched like a guardian spirit over two tender, embracing figures enclosed within the sweeping curves of a tree.

Rendered in loose, gestural lines and lush washes of green and blue, the composition feels at once whimsical and deeply symbolic. The bird, both peaceful and otherworldly, hovers protectively, while the entwined lovers below recall Chagall’s recurring themes of romance, memory, and sanctuary. The presence of vegetal motifs and dreamy, floating forms further evoke his signature blend of folklore and mysticism.

Printed by Mourlot, the legendary Parisian atelier known for its collaborations with Picasso, Matisse, and Miró, this poster is not merely promotional—it is a work of art in its own right. Like many of Chagall’s lithographic pieces, it blurs the line between the exhibit it announces and the visual poetry it embodies.

A stunning fusion of color, emotion, and symbolism, L’Oiseau Vert stands as a lyrical example of mid-century printmaking and Chagall’s unmistakable visual language—hopeful, human, and soaring.
