This original lithographic poster, created in 1896 by French artist Georges Meunier, was published as Plate 31 in the prestigious Les Maîtres de l’Affiche series. Commissioned by the Chemins de Fer de l’Ouest (Western Railway Company), the work promotes excursions to Normandy and Brittany, including the Îles de Jersey and the iconic Mont Saint-Michel.

Georges Meunier (1869–1942) was a celebrated student of Jules Chéret and became known for his elegant compositions, refined typography, and bright colour palettes. His posters often feature fashionable Parisian figures, rendered with fluid lines and a distinct Art Nouveau vibrancy.

Here, Meunier depicts a cheerful seaside scene: elegantly dressed women and a child gaze towards the Mont Saint-Michel while a jovial Breton man gestures proudly, inviting travellers to explore his region. The poster is both promotional and picturesque, combining travel advertising with Belle Époque artistry to inspire leisure tourism.

Published as part of Les Maîtres de l’Affiche, the highly collectible portfolio showcasing the era’s greatest poster artists, this piece bears the blindstamp in the lower right. Its crisp lithographic colours and charming detail make it a rare artwork celebrating French railway history, tourism, and fin-de-siècle graphic design.
