Albert Sébille 🇫🇷 (1874-1953), spent all his youth in Marseille and was trained at the fine arts of this city. At the age of twenty he moved to Paris. He did not practice impressionism, which was beginning at that time, but preferred maritime narrative painting, which led him to be appointed Painter of the Navy in 1907. After the war, he became attached to the newspaper l'Illustration. Then he worked for the maritime league. He realized many posters during his career, including a large series of famous posters for the major shipping companies of the time. The Société générale des transports maritimes (SGTM) was a shipping company created in 1865. It operated lines from the port of Le Havre with its two mythical liners: Bretagne and Provence.
