This beautiful poster was made to promote the exhibition of Henri Matisse at the House of French Thought which took place in 1950.
Henri Matisse (1869 - 1954) is a French painter, draughtsman and sculptor. Through the use of simplification, and stylisation, Matisse brought considerable influence to 20th century art, considered a pioneer of fauvism.
From Picasso, who was his friend and considered him his great rival, to Andy Warhol who "wanted to be Matisse", all 20th century painters were confronted with the glory and genius of Matisse.
