Magnificent original poster of the Swiss painter Théophile Alexandre Steinlen realized in 1896 to promote the Parisian cabaret Le Chat noir, in Montmartre. It mentions Rodolphe Salis, owner and operator of the cabaret.
This iconic color lithograph depicts a black cat on a yellow and red background. The cat's head is surrounded by a red halo in which is inscribed the motto "Montjoye Montmartre", parodying a medieval war cry ("Montjoie! Saint-Denis!").
This poster is the subject of many reproductions. It has thus become one of the symbols of the Parisian picturesque, and its image is found in many derivative products sold in particular in the stores for tourists of the French capital.
