Jacques Auriac was a man of craft; he modestly insisted on this point on all occasions.
His education began with the Beaux-Arts in Bourges and Paris (from 1940 to 1943) under the difficult circumstances of the war. Jacques Auriac learned a knowledge that was perhaps a little too general, but he largely trained himself in his future profession through practice and observation of the masters of poster design of the previous generation and of the contemporary period. He has always defined himself as self-taught and independent. Just out of school, he found Guy de la Vasselais in the late 1940s. This man was one of the best publishers and printers of posters of the time. La Vasselais had built up a remarkable team of graphic designers after the war.
